Tarjei Elias Drangedal (born 10 September 1963) is a Norwegian singer and songwriter. He competed in Norsksong 1 with the song "Er det et sted for oss".

Life and career[]

Early life[]

Drangedal was born on 10 September 1963 in Nittedal. His father worked as a fisherman, while his mother was a stay-at-home mom, while the family was working class. He grew up with two younger sisters.

Drangedal completed compulsory schooling in 1980, and later attended a music school in nearby Oslo. He graduated from music school in 1983, and began pursuing a professional music career.

Music career[]

After graduating from music school in 1983, Drangedal moved to Oslo in order to pursue a professional music career. He was signed to Universal Music Norway in 1985. Drangedal released his debut self-titled album in 1986, which became a success within the Norwegian schlager community. Drangedal went on to release several other successful albums within his career.

In 2017, he was confirmed to be taking part in Norsksong 1, with the song "Er det et sted for oss". However, he did not qualify for the superfinal.

Personal life[]

Drangedal has been married three times. In 1989, he married Swedish dancer Elsabet Olofsson. The marriage ended in divorce in 1993. He married Norwegian artist Alexandra Aksnes in 1997, but they divorced after three months of marriage. He married his third wife, Norwegian dancer Sofie Nilsen, in 1999. They have two children together; Anne, born in 2000, and Per, born in 2002. They divorced in 2006.

Legal issues[]

In 1995, Drangedal was arrested after drunkenly assaulting a man outside of a club in Frogner, Oslo. He paid a fine and was released, but his career declined afterwards. In 2003, he was arrested for possession of cocaine, and forced to enter a drug rehabilitation program. He was arrested for possession of a firearm in 2007, and was sentenced to a month in jail.
