Patricia Anni-Agnetha "Patty" Helmqvist (born 19 February 1955) is a Swedish singer and songwriter. She competed in Svensksong 1 with the song "Det är vad du vill".
Life and careerEdit
Helmqvist was born on 19 February 1955 in Arvika Municipality. She grew up on a farm in a big family, the youngest of three sons and seven daughters. The family was also musical, and all of the Helmqvist children sang or played musical instruments.
Helmqvist graduated from compulsory schooling in 1971, and then began attending a music school in nearby Arvika. She graduated from music school in 1974, and moved to Stockholm in order to pursue a music career.
Since 1974, Helmqvist has had an extremely successful music career, becoming one of the most popular Swedish schlager singers of all time. She was signed to Warner Music Sweden in 1975, and has went on to release thirty-four studio albums.
In 2016, Helmqvist was confirmed to be taking part in Svensksong 1, with the song "Det är vad du vill". She performed the song in the first semi-final, and was eliminated, placing seventh.
Helmqvist married Swedish musician Ivo Ivarsson in 1984. They have three children together; Diana, born in 1987, Lena, born in 1990, and Erik, born in 1992. The family resides in Danderyd Municipality, Stockholm County.
