Nazanin Leyla Rezazadeh (born 2 May 1989), better known as simply Nazanin, is a Swedish singer and songwriter. She first came to prominence in 2009, after winning season three of Swedish Idol. She also competed in Svensksong 1 with the song "The Distortion".

Life and career[]

Early life[]

Nazanin was born on 2 May 1989 in Salem Municipality, Stockholm County. Her parents, Eldar and Leyla, immigrated to Sweden from Iran while Leyla was pregnant with Nazanin. She has two older brothers and one younger brother. She is of Iranian Azerbaijani descent and was raised speaking Azerbaijani.

Nazanin graduated from compulsory schooling in 2005, and went on to attend a music school in Stockholm, which she graduated from in 2008. After graduating from high school, she began to pursue a music career professionally.

2009–2012: Career beginnings and Swedish Idol[]

After initial attempts at a music career proved unsuccessful, Nazanin auditioned for season three of Swedish Idol in Stockholm, during the summer of 2009. During her audition, she was credited as "Nazanin Rezazadeh", but dropped her surname in subsequent rounds. Nazanin made it onto the show, and went on to win. Following her win, she was signed to Warner Music Sweden.

Her debut single, "Look At Me Now", was released during summer 2010, and peaked at number-one in Sweden. She then released her debut EP, Brown Eyes, which reached number-two.

2012–2016: Honeydew[]

In 2013, Nazanin released the lead single to her debut studio album, "Blackbird". It became a top ten hit in Sweden, and was used throughout Swedish media. Her debut studio album, Honeydew, was released later that year and peaked within the top three Swedish albums. Following its release, she toured throughout Scandinavia.

2016–present: Svensksong[]

In 2016, Nazanin was confirmed to be taking part in Svensksong 1, with the song "The Distortion". She performed the song in the second semi-final, and advanced directly to the final. In the final, she placed third.

Personal life[]

Although she was raised with the religion, Nazanin has stated that she no longer identifies as a Muslim. She resides in Stockholm and is a polyglot, speaking fluent Swedish, Azerbaijani, Turkish, Persian, and English.
